check your shit

doing yoga stretches to work out air stuck in my guts, i am laughing at
the changes our bodies experience
and how we struggle with these changes
despite their constant nature
we chase the illusion of certainty, we manifest stability, we exert control
over our immediate environments,
but these bodies still seem to have their own agendas
and don't get me started on
the toxins we have no say in the regulation thereof,
how many companies are contaminating
giving cancer out with their decent health benefits and pensions.
it was terrifying to me
to realize you could have cancer anywhere.
breast. prostate. throat. mouth. stomach. lungs.
vagina.
as with mental health, early detection is key.
so if you have access to healthcare, you might be able to get screenings for things.
but if not, you might notice something is wrong. you might have options.
you might just have to accept your death.
but it has to feel like the ultimate
loss of control. your own body. corrupted. infiltrated. violated.
i have heard claims of people who beat diseases by drastically changing their diets.
mothers who had children with food allergies who embraced having to learn an entirely new skill set.
but not all moms can do that.
not all people have access.
not all people have the same options for control.
not all people have the same needs.

these bodies are needy. and we have a social structure that in so many ways has done the opposite of support people. has limited access to basic things we do all need.

cradle to the grave our bodies are treated like burdens whose sole purpose is to labor.

or suffer. but then we add extra suffering. because hurt people hurt people and so few have stood up to stop those cycles of abuse. it's happening. we are learning, but goddamnit do we take forever. stuck perpetually in the adolescence of our species.

it makes one tired.
to carry this body, the ways we must if we keep going.

we have to take care of our bodies as best we are able.
embrace aging. it is inevitable, and youth is not the only gift in these bodies; life is not over after 50, or whatever age people think you shrivel up at.

and with joy worked in as the key ingredient to
living,
we can manage well enough regardless of what genes and circumstances we inherited.
